What is Vex 8?

Vex 8 is a free stickman platformer for the browser in which you run and jump a stick figure through nine acts of spikes, spinning saw blades and traps, collecting coins, tickets, medals and skins on the way. GameDistribution’s description calls it “the newest installment in the ever-popular Vex franchise”.

Everything starts from one screen. Six buttons run along the top — settings, acts, skins, medals, daily tasks and an infinity sign for the endless mode — beside three balances: gold V tickets, silver V tickets and coins. The first level is already loaded behind them, with a single instruction: “Move with the arrowkeys or WASD.”

The Act Selection screen holds acts 1 to 9 and a tenth tile labelled VEX. The medal list shows there is more behind them: besides a medal for completing each of the nine acts, there is one for each “Act Hard” from 1 to 9, one for “Vexation”, and one each for completing all standard acts and all hardcore acts.

The official description promises new obstacles “like the new red-green light traps”, secret areas that hide trophies, and “the brand new infinite mode”. Infinite mode is one click from the main screen: an endless run with a live score and a best score, coins to grab, and spikes and spinning saw blades in the way.

Around the levels sits a light progression game. Skins — seven pages of them — cost coins or tickets. Three daily tasks reset every day. And 27 medals reward everything from finishing acts to failing more than 100 times, playing for over an hour and surfacing from a swim with one bubble of air left.

GameDistribution lists Vex 8 under Azerion Casual Games and published it on October 6, 2023, with English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish text. It is one of GameDistribution’s most-viewed games: in October 2026 only four of the more than 1,100 games in its Hot, Best New and Top Picks lists had more page views on its own site.

How to play

Playing Vex 8

  1. 1
    Start a level

The first level of Vex 8 is already loaded behind the main menu. Start moving, or open the act menu — the grid button at the top — and pick an act.

  2. 2
Move with the arrows or WASD

The game’s first instruction is “Move with the arrowkeys or WASD.” Run along the platforms toward the end of the level.

  3. 3
Learn new moves as they appear

GameDistribution’s instructions note that the game shows any other controls when they are needed, so read the on-screen prompts as each new obstacle arrives.

  4. 4
    Avoid the hazards

Spikes and spinning saw blades are what you are dodging. When an attempt fails, try again, learn the pattern and get a little further each time.

  5. 5
    Watch your air underwater

Some sections are swum rather than run, and your air is counted in bubbles — one medal is for surfacing with only one bubble left.

  6. 6
    Chase your best time

Vex 8 keeps a best time for levels. Once you have finished an act, go back and try to beat it.

Tips & strategy

How to win at Vex 8

  • Turn on auto-restart. Vex 8 is a game of retries — there is even a medal for failing more than 100 times. The settings screen has an “Auto restart level upon failing” box, which puts you straight back at the start instead of making you click after every miss.

  • Use the best-time restart for speed runs. A second setting, “Auto restart when best time is passed”, restarts a level once you fall behind your own record. Switch it on when you are replaying a finished act to go faster.

  • Do the daily tasks. The daily tasks are the steady source of tickets: on our visit, completing any three levels paid 2 silver V tickets, while the coin tasks paid 8 and 10 coins. They reset on a countdown shown at the top of the screen.

  • Spend coins before tickets. On the first page of skins, most cost coins — 10 for the coloured stickmen, 15 and 20 for two others — while one costs 5 silver V tickets and another a gold V ticket. Spend coins on the cheap ones and keep your tickets for the skins that need them.

  • Watch the bubbles when you swim. Underwater sections count your air in bubbles. Head for the surface before you run out — surfacing with exactly one bubble left even earns a medal.

  • Look for secret areas. The official description says the acts hide secret areas with trophies to collect. If a level has an odd gap or an out-of-the-way ledge, it is worth a look.

  • Practise in Infinite mode. Infinite mode throws spikes and saw blades at you without the pressure of finishing an act, and it keeps a best score to beat. It is a good warm-up before a hard act.

Good to know — Vex 8 rewards stubbornness as well as skill: of its 27 medals, one is for failing more than 100 times and another for playing the game for over an hour.
