What is Apple Worm?
Apple Worm is a free logic puzzle game for the browser in which you steer a little green worm one step at a time to an apple and then into a black hole. Every apple makes the worm one segment longer, gravity pulls it down whenever nothing is holding it up, and there are 30 levels to solve.
GameDistribution describes it as “an addictive logical puzzle game based on the Snake-like game mechanic (not the traditional snake)” and sums up the trick in one line: “Bend your worm into impossible positions to get to the apple!” Unlike Snake, nothing moves until you press a key, so every level is a puzzle you can think through.
The level screen shows 15 levels per page across two pages — 30 in all. On our first visit levels 1, 2 and 3 were already open and the rest were locked, with a golden padlock on the last one.
Level 1 is a lesson in gravity. Our worm started on a ledge with a raised block between it and the black hole. Lifting its head and moving forward on the low ground did not work — the worm simply dropped back down and lay against the block. What worked was crawling right up to the block first, then lifting the head onto it and pushing on, so the body followed over the top and down the far side into the hole.
Level 2 introduces the apple with a picture-equation: worm plus apple equals a longer worm. A longer body is what lets the worm bridge gaps and reach ledges it could not reach before — and also what gets it stuck if you collect apples in the wrong order.
Inside a level the screen is uncluttered. The restart button sits in the top-left corner; sound, music and a button back to the level list sit in the top-right; and the level number is in the bottom-left. Level 1 adds a faded diagram of the four arrow keys above the worm, and level 2 the worm-plus-apple picture — the game teaches with pictures rather than text.
GameDistribution lists Apple Worm under Gibton and published it on January 21, 2022. Searches for levels beyond 30 most likely refer to other versions of Apple Worm; the browser version on this page has 30.
Playing Apple Worm
- 1Choose a level
Press Play, then the green play button on the Apple Worm title screen. Pick an unlocked level from the level screen.
- 2Move one step at a time
Each press of an arrow key or W, A, S or D moves the worm’s head one square; the body follows.
- 3Mind gravity
If nothing is under the worm, it falls. Use walls, ledges and the worm’s own body to stay up.
- 4Eat the apple
Reaching an apple makes the worm one segment longer. GameDistribution’s instructions: “Get the apple and then escape though the black hole.”
- 5Escape through the hole
Move the head into the black hole to finish. A “Level complete” card appears with buttons for the level list and the next level.
- 6Restart when stuck
Press R, or the circular arrow in the top-left corner, to restart the level from the beginning.

How to win at Apple Worm
Read the pictures. Apple Worm teaches with images instead of text: an arrow-key diagram on level 1, a worm-plus-apple sum on level 2. When a new level shows a picture, it is telling you the rule you need.
Get close before you climb. Apple Worm’s first level shows it: lifting the worm’s head too early just drops it back to the ground. Crawl right up to the obstacle, then lift the head onto it.
Think before every move. Nothing in Apple Worm moves on its own, so there is no rush. Plan where the body will end up after each step, not just where the head goes.
Use your body as a support. Gravity pulls the whole worm, but the part still resting on a ledge holds the rest up. Keep some of the body on solid ground while the head reaches out.
Order your apples. Each apple adds a segment. Being longer helps you bridge gaps, but it can also leave you too long to turn in a tight space — on levels with several apples, decide which to take first.
Restart freely. R resets the level instantly. If the worm falls somewhere it cannot climb out of, restart rather than trying to rescue it.
Go back to earlier levels. The level screen lets you replay anything you have unlocked. Revisiting an early level is a good way to rediscover a trick a later one needs.
Good to know — Apple Worm explains its whole idea in a picture on level 2 — worm plus apple equals a longer worm — without a single word of text.

Move the worm one step at a time with the arrow keys or WASD. Get it to the apple, which makes it longer, and then into the black hole to finish the level. Gravity pulls the worm down whenever nothing holds it up.
Thirty. The level screen has two pages of 15, and the last level has a golden padlock.
Three. On our first visit levels 1, 2 and 3 were unlocked and the other 27 showed padlocks; levels open up as you solve the ones before them.
Yes. The three-dot menu in the top-right corner of the game has a full-screen button next to the sound switch.
Press R, or click the circular arrow button in the top-left corner of the level.
Apple Worm has gravity. If no part of the worm is resting on something solid, it drops. Keep part of the body on a ledge while the head reaches out, and approach obstacles closely before climbing them.
Each apple makes the worm one segment longer. The extra length lets it bridge gaps and reach higher ledges, but a longer worm is also harder to fit through tight spaces.
We have not published level-by-level solutions. The best approach on the late levels is to restart often with R and plan where the body will be after each move, not just the head.
Only in its look. GameDistribution describes it as “based on the Snake-like game mechanic (not the traditional snake)”: the worm moves one step per key press instead of crawling on its own, gravity pulls it down, and every level is a fixed puzzle with one exit.
The exit. Moving the worm’s head into it completes the level — on level 1 there is no apple at all, just the hole on the far side of a raised block.
