About the game

What is Super Soccer Noggins?

Super Soccer Noggins is a free one-on-one big-head football game from Ravalmatic in which you pick a nation and climb a cup ladder of eight opponents, earning cash to upgrade your player, with a Local 2 Players mode that lets two people set the stats, the match rule and the field.

The credits screen, behind the question-mark button, reads “A game by Ravalmatic” and names the team: music by Javi Doblas, art and UX by Javi Sanz, programming by E.G. Bianco, testing by L. Grijander and C. Mairena, and game design by Enriqueto. It was built with the Phaser framework, is “based on Sports Head Football Championship”, and the build we played was version 2.1. Ravalmatic also made Foot Chinko and Soccer Snakes, which are already in our arcade.

GameDistribution published Super Soccer Noggins on February 5, 2024, and marks it as both a Best and a Featured game in its catalogue. The official description promises 10 powerups, a range of fields and 6 trophies to win.

Single-player Super Soccer Noggins starts with the Le Croissant Cup. You choose one of nine nations — Poland, Russia, England, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Germany, France or Portugal — and the rest form a ladder from Poland at the bottom to France at the top. Each win moves you up a rung. Six trophy silhouettes along the bottom of the cup screen mark the competitions still to unlock, and one achievement refers to a “Golden Skull final”.

Super Soccer Noggins matches last 60 seconds. You move along the ground, jump, and kick with X or Space, and powerup icons appear above the pitch during play. If the score is level when the clock runs out, the match goes to a Golden Goal period with a golden ball: the next goal wins. Our first match finished 2:2 and we won it in golden goal.

Winning in Super Soccer Noggins pays cash. Our victory paid 130,000, and each of the four upgrades — Rush, Backtrack, Jump and Kick, five levels apiece — costs 150,000 to raise. Ten achievements pay more, from 100,000 for scoring four goals in one match to 600,000 for scoring 150 goals in total. Next to the other head-soccer games in our arcade, Super Soccer Noggins has the most to work toward.

How to play

Playing Super Soccer Noggins

  1. 1
    Choose a mode

The Super Soccer Noggins title screen has Play for the single-player cups and Local 2 Players for a match against a friend on the same keyboard.

  2. 2
    Pick a nation

Under Play, choose one of nine nations for the Le Croissant Cup. The other eight become the ladder you have to climb.

  3. 3
    Move, jump and kick

Use the arrow keys to move and Up to jump; press X or Space to kick. Your head counts as much as your boot, so jump into high balls.

  4. 4
    Use the powerups

Powerup icons appear in the air above the pitch during a match. Reach them before your opponent does.

  5. 5
Win in 60 seconds — or in golden goal

Lead when the clock runs out and you win. If it is level, a Golden Goal period starts with a golden ball, and the next goal settles it.

  6. 6
    Upgrade and climb

Wins pay cash. Spend it on Rush, Backtrack, Jump and Kick upgrades on the cup screen, then take on the next team on the ladder.

Modes & progression

Le Croissant CupCup ladder

The first single-player cup: a ladder of eight nations from Poland to France. Each win takes you up a rung; reaching the top wins the cup.

More cups6 trophies

Six trophy silhouettes sit along the bottom of the cup screen, and the official description counts 6 trophies. The achievements mention a Golden Skull final.

Local 2 PlayersSame keyboard

Two players on one keyboard. Each picks a nation; then you set Rush, Backtrack, Jump and Kick, choose First to Seven, Timed or Golden Goal, and pick a field.

Six fieldsFields

In Local 2 Players: a flat pitch, a pitch over water with two balls, rolling hills, hills over water, and two raised-pillar layouts — or Random.

Tips & strategy

How to win at Super Soccer Noggins

  • Do not settle for a draw. A level Super Soccer Noggins match goes to Golden Goal, and in golden goal one mistake ends it. If you are ahead with seconds left, stay between the ball and your own goal.

  • Save cash for one upgrade at a time. Each upgrade level costs 150,000, a little more than our first win paid. Put the money into one stat — Jump or Kick suit an attacking game — rather than waiting to raise all four together.

  • Chase the achievements. They pay well: 100,000 for four goals in a match or a goal in the first five seconds, up to 600,000 for 150 career goals. A big win can unlock one on the spot — ours came with Goal Killer.

  • Go for the powerups. Achievements such as Jetpack Ace (score three goals while flying with the jetpack) and Viking Hero (score with the ball inside the Viking helmet) show that the powerups are built to be scored with, not just collected.

  • Use the field in two-player games. On the pillar and hill layouts in Local 2 Players the ball bounces off the terrain. Keep an eye on the angles — a ball rolling off a pillar can drop straight into a goal.

  • Pick the match rule to suit the time you have. In Local 2 Players, Timed suits a quick game, First to Seven plays until someone reaches seven goals, and Golden Goal ends at the first goal.

  • Agree on keys first. Player 1 takes W, A, S, D (or Z, Q, S, D) and Player 2 takes the arrow keys. The setup screen shows both before kick-off.

Good to know — Super Soccer Noggins never settles a draw on the clock: a level match goes to a Golden Goal period with a golden ball, and the next goal wins.
