How Who Won It works
Ten competition seasons, ten champions to name. It is the first game here whose subject is a club rather than a player. Knowing who played is one kind of memory; knowing who won, season by season, is another — and it is the one that goes first.
800 recorded titles across 11 competitions, won by 86 clubs between 1889 and 2025.
15 competition-seasons are excluded because more than one winner is recorded — early Copa del Rey years when two parallel tournaments ran, plus a few disputed titles. A question with two right answers is not a hard question.

How to pick better
- 1. Date the options, not the season. If one of the four did not exist as a force in that era, it is out — a club's strong decade is a better filter than the exact year.
- 2. Cups are wilder than leagues. A one-off knockout produces winners a league never would, so do not reject an unfashionable name in a cup question.
- 3. Dynasties cluster. Champions repeat: if you know who won the season before, that club is the strongest single guess.
- 4. The Europa League is short. It only runs from 2010 here — the UEFA Cup years are a different competition and are not included.
- 5. Older seasons reward breadth. Pre-1970 questions are where the round is won, because everyone knows the recent ones.
A worked example
"2020-21 UEFA Champions League" against Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Chelsea. Three of those are the reflex answers and all three are wrong — Chelsea beat Manchester City in Porto. The lesson generalises: in a four-way question the famous names are the decoys, because the generator draws them from the same competition's actual winners. If every option looks plausible, that is the question working.

Season winners come from Wikidata and are matched onto our own club list by name — a step worth naming, because the obvious way to do it credited Espanyol's trophies to Barcelona for a while. Anything that cannot be matched confidently is excluded rather than guessed at.

What is Who Won It?
A daily football quiz. 10 questions, each naming a competition and a season — pick the club that won it from 4 options.
How is it scored?
10 points per correct answer, up to 100. There is one pick per question and no going back.
Where do the wrong options come from?
Other champions of the SAME competition, preferring nearby seasons. "Who won the 2015-16 Premier League" against Freiburg is not a question; against City, Chelsea and Arsenal it is, because every one of those is a plausible champion and only one of them was.
Which competitions can come up?
11 of them — the five big leagues, four domestic cups, the Champions League and the Europa League. A round takes at most two questions from any one competition, so it never turns into a Premier League quiz.
How far back does it go?
1889 to 2025, across 800 recorded titles won by 86 clubs.
Why do some seasons never appear?
15 competition-seasons have more than one recorded winner — early Copa del Rey years when two parallel tournaments ran, and a handful of disputed titles. A question with two right answers is not a hard question, so those never reach the game.
What does a season label mean?
The year it started. 2015-16 is the Premier League season Leicester won.
Is this about players at all?
No, and that is deliberate — it is the first game on the site whose subject is a club. Every other one asks you to know people; this asks you to know seasons, which is a different shelf of the same memory and the one that decays first.
Where does the data come from?
Wikidata season records — each competition season carries its winner. Club names are matched onto our own club list, and anything that cannot be matched confidently is excluded rather than guessed at.

Yes. A seeded generator gives every player worldwide the same questions for a given date.
