How Trophy Grid works
Nine cells, each one a competition crossed with a nationality. Every football grid you have played runs on club history — which clubs a player turned out for — because that is the data everyone has. This one runs on honours. Same shape, different question: not where they played, but what they won.
533 players with verified honours across 13 competitions and 11 nationalities, producing 91 cells that hold at least 3 valid answers. Only boards whose nine cells all clear that floor are served.

How to fill a board
- 1. Start with the hardest cell, not the easiest. Your obvious answers usually fit several cells; spending one on the wrong cell is how a board fails with three left blank.
- 2. Serial winners are wasted early. A player with twenty trophies solves four cells; put them where nobody else will do, not in the first cell you clicked.
- 3. Domestic cups beat leagues for obscure nationalities. Cup runs pull in squad players from everywhere, while a title-winning XI is narrower.
- 4. Champions League cells are the widest. Every winning squad for thirty years is in the pool, so that row is where an awkward nationality gets solved.
- 5. Rarity does not score, so play for coverage first. Nine filled cells beats six inspired ones every time; chase the percentage only once the board is safe.
A worked example
Premier League / FA Cup / Copa del Rey against Argentina, France and Portugal. The English cells look easy and mostly are; Copa del Rey × Argentina is the one that decides the board, and the instinct — reach for the most famous Argentine at a Spanish club — is exactly the guess that also solves nothing else. The cell holds several valid answers, which is the point: a grid where one name is the only way through is a memory test, not a puzzle.

Honours are derived by crossing verified club spells with Wikidata season winners, and every cell's answer count is computed from that same data at build time — so a cell that thins out stops being served rather than quietly becoming unsolvable.

What is Trophy Grid?
A daily 3×3 football grid. Rows are competitions, columns are nationalities. Each cell needs a player of that nationality who won that competition.
How is it different from other football grids?
Every grid in this genre — Immaculate Grid and everything built on it — runs on club history, because club history is the data everyone has. This one runs on honours. It asks what a player won, not where they played.
How many guesses do I get?
9, and every attempt counts whether it lands or not. A player can only be used once on a board.
How is it scored?
10 points per filled cell, 2 more for every guess you did not need, and a 10-point bonus for a full board.
What is the rarity percentage on a filled cell?
How obscure your answer was within that cell, measured by trophy count — naming the two-trophy player who qualifies reads as rarer than naming the twenty-trophy one everybody reaches for. It does not change your score; it is there so an inspired answer looks like one.
Why not competitions against clubs?
Because it collapses. "A Bayern player who won the Bundesliga" is most of the squad; "a Bayern player who won La Liga" is nobody. Almost every cell would be trivial or empty. Nationality is independent of what a player won, so the two axes actually cross.
Could a cell have only one right answer?
No. A cell is only served when at least 3 players in our data qualify, and being marked wrong for naming a different real winner is the failure mode this whole site is built to avoid. 91 cells clear that floor.
Does a trophy mean they played?
No. It means the player was at the club in a season it won. An injured season, a bench year and a January transfer all count.
How big is the pool?
533 players with verified honours, across 13 competitions and 11 nationalities that reach the floor against three or more partners.
Does everyone get the same board?
Yes. A seeded generator gives every player worldwide the same nine cells for a given date.
Is there an archive?
Yes, the last 30 days are replayable and do not affect your daily streak.
