Club Era — Daily Football Squad Season Quiz
How Club Era works
Six players who were all at one club together. Which season? Squads blur in memory — a set of names feels like one era long after the actual overlap has narrowed to a single year. This is the game that makes you find that year.
389 club-seasons hold at least 6 evidenced players, across 23 clubs with enough distinct seasons to offer plausible decoys, from 1989 to 2026, drawn from a 766-player database.
The six are not picked at random. They come from the SHORT stints, because a one-club veteran overlaps with everyone and narrows nothing — the players who pin a season down are the ones who were only there for two or three of them. It is why a board usually turns on one name rather than six.

How to play in 3 steps
- 1
Read the squad
One club and 6 of its players. No years shown.
- 2
Find the narrowest name
One of them was only there briefly — that is the one that pins the season.
- 3
Pick a season
4 options, 2 tries. 100 points on the first, 50 on the second.
How to find the season
- 1. Ignore the famous name. The club legend was there for a decade and rules nothing out. The squad player you half-remember is the useful one.
- 2. Work from the latest arrival. Whoever joined most recently sets the earliest possible season, and that alone often eliminates two options.
- 3. Then work backwards from the first departure. The first of the six to leave sets the latest possible season. Between the two you usually have your answer.
- 4. The options are all real. Every one is a season this club can field a squad from, so none can be dismissed as absurd.
- 5. Second guesses are worth taking. 50 points beats zero, and after one miss the field is down to three.
A worked example
Barcelona: Suárez, Rakitić, Coutinho, Dembélé, Arda Turan and Griezmann. Four of those overlap comfortably across several seasons — but Griezmann only arrived in 2019, and Arda Turan was gone by 2020. That is a one-season window, and the other five names never needed to be considered. Find the two that squeeze from opposite ends.
About the authors
Club Era is maintained by the PlayFutbol Data Team. It reads the same club-season index as Same Season, rebuilt from Wikidata spell statements. The six on a board are the players our records place at that club that season — not a team sheet, and never the whole squad.

Frequently asked questions
What is Club Era?
A daily football puzzle. One club, 6 players who were all on its books in the same season, and 4 candidate seasons — pick the right one in 2 tries.
How is it different from Same Season?
Same Season asks WHETHER four players overlapped. This tells you they did, names the club, and asks WHEN. Knowing three midfielders were team-mates is common knowledge; knowing which of nine seasons had all six of these names is not.
How is it scored?
100 for a first-guess answer, 50 for the second. Nothing after that.
Why only four options?
Guess the Year already owns the slider, and a second game with the same input would feel like the same game. Four seasons also keeps the round fast, which suits a question whose answer is a single number.
Where do the wrong options come from?
The same club, within eight seasons of the answer. Offering 1998 against 2023 would be answerable from the names alone without any thought about the specific window.
How are the six players chosen?
Deliberately from the SHORT stints. A one-club veteran overlaps with everyone and narrows nothing; the players who pin a season down are the ones who were only there for two or three of them. That is why a board often turns on one name.
Do I see their years?
Only in the reveal. The years are the answer.
How many squads are in the pool?
389 club-seasons with at least 6 evidenced players, across 23 clubs with enough distinct seasons to offer plausible decoys, from 1989 to 2026.
Is it the full squad?
No — it is six players from our database who were there that season, not a team sheet. A real squad had twenty-odd others we do not carry.
How do you know the overlaps are real?
A season overlap is the intersection of two date ranges, and 31.9% of our spell years were invented until September 2026. Only players whose chronology is verified against Wikidata are indexed.
Is there an archive?
Yes. Past squads are replayable and do not affect your daily streak.
Is it free?
Yes. No signup, no paywall, no ads inside the game.
