How Guess the League works
Five footballers, clubs hidden — name the competition all five play in. Most football games test whether you know a player. This one tests whether you know where they went, which is a different and much shorter-lived kind of knowledge: a transfer window can wipe it out.
8 leagues are deep enough to field a round, drawn from a 766-player database covering 201 clubs. A league qualifies only when it holds at least eight current players across at least 5 of its clubs — the five in a round always come from five different sides, so a shallow league cannot appear at all.
That leaves a wide spread: Premier League has 225 eligible players across 16 clubs, while Saudi Pro League has 13 across 5. Every league is drawn equally often, so the shallow ones are where the hard rounds come from.

How to read the five faster
- 1. Find the anchor. One of the five is usually a name you place instantly. Start there and check the other four against it.
- 2. Flags cluster. A Brazilian and a Portuguese speaker in the same round tilts toward the Primeira Liga; three Englishmen tilt toward the Championship.
- 3. Fame is a signal about depth, not the answer. A round of players you half-recognise is more likely a shallow league than the Premier League.
- 4. Spend the first guess. Second place is worth 60 points, and the crest you uncover is often decisive. A confident wrong answer beats a timid one.
- 5. Positions rarely help. They are there to identify the player, not the league — do not read anything into a round full of midfielders.
A worked example
The five are a Korean forward, a Brazilian centre-back, a Danish midfielder, an Argentine winger and an English full-back. That mix of nationalities with no obvious centre of gravity points at a league that imports from everywhere — the Premier League or Serie A rather than the Bundesliga. The English full-back tips it: a home-nation player in a cosmopolitan league is a stronger signal than any of the imports.

Players whose career could not be verified against a source are excluded from this game rather than shown with a club we are not sure of.

What is Guess the League?
Guess the League is a daily football puzzle. Five players are shown with their name, flag and position — but not their club — and you name the league all five play in.
How many guesses do I get?
3, from 6 league options. Every wrong guess uncovers one player's club crest, so the round gets easier rather than just shorter.
Why are the clubs hidden at the start?
A crest gives the league away outright. Hiding it makes the opening question "do I know these players", and only turns it into "can I place this club" once you have already missed.
How is it scored?
100 points for a first-guess answer, 60 for the second, 30 for the third. Nothing if all three miss.
Are the five players ever team-mates?
No. Every round draws its five from five different clubs. Two players from the same side would identify the club, and with it the league.
Which leagues can come up?
8 of them. A league only appears when our database holds at least eight current players spread across at least 5 of its clubs — enough to field a fair round.
Why is the Premier League so much more common?
It is not more common — every league is drawn equally often. It simply has by far the deepest coverage in our data, so its rounds have the widest variety of players.
What makes a round hard?
Depth. A Premier League round is usually recognisable at a glance; a Saudi Pro League or MLS round asks you to know where a player went, not just who they are.
Does everyone see the same five?
Yes. A seeded generator gives every player worldwide the same five footballers and the same options for a given date.
Is there an archive?
Yes. Past rounds are replayable, and archive rounds do not affect your daily streak.
How current is the club data?
Each player's current club was rebuilt from Wikidata in September 2026, and players whose career could not be verified against a source are excluded from this game entirely.
