About the game

What is Brazil Cup 2014?

Brazil Cup 2014 is a free top-down football game that plays like a pinball table: you pick a national team and win match after match through a World Cup bracket — qualifying, round of 16, quarter-final, semi-final and final — using the arrow keys to move your players and Space to shoot.

GamePix published it on June 16, 2014, four days after the real tournament kicked off in São Paulo, and refreshed the listing in April 2025. That makes it the oldest game in the PlayFutbol arcade, and it still holds up: it is quick to learn, plays in portrait and works in desktop and mobile browsers. The Credits button on its title screen names the studio behind it: Cenoura Games — “cenoura” is Portuguese for carrot, which is why the logo is a grinning carrot.

The flow is simple. From the title screen you press Play, choose a team — Brazil is the default, and the arrows either side of the name cycle through the others — and land on a tournament screen headed “World Cup 2014”. A progress bar runs from Qualifying through Final 16, Final 8 and Semi-Final to the Final, and the next fixture is shown underneath. Our first match as Brazil was against France.

On the pitch, the game is viewed from above. Each side has a goalkeeper and three outfield players set out like the rods of a table-football game, and the match starts when you click. GamePix’s official description calls it “soccer meets pinball chaos” and talks about multiple balls storming the field — Brazil Cup 2014 is about reflexes and angles, not tactics.

The presentation is tidy for a game of its age. Team abbreviations and goals run along the bottom of the pitch — BRA and FRA in our first match — with pause and sound buttons in the top corner, and the yellow-and-green colour scheme of the menus leans fully into the 2014 tournament in Brazil.

Brazil Cup 2014 sits next to two other ricochet-style games in our arcade. Foot Chinko and Foot Chinko World Cup, both by Ravalmatic, have you aim and fire the ball into a pachinko-like board of pegs and players. Brazil Cup 2014 is more direct: instead of launching a shot and watching it bounce, you move your own players and shoot, so you are part of every rebound rather than a spectator to it. Tips & strategy

How to win at Brazil Cup 2014

  • Think in angles. Your players sit in fixed lines, like table football. The ball comes off them at an angle, so the skill is lining up a rebound that heads for goal rather than straight back at you.

  • Shoot early in a scramble. The official description promises multiple balls and pinball chaos. When the ball is bouncing around your attackers, a quick shot is usually better than waiting for a perfect position.

  • Protect your goalkeeper’s side. Your keeper is your last line, but your outfield players block shots too. Keep them between the ball and your goal when the opponent is attacking.

  • Treat the knockouts seriously. Once you reach the round of 16 every match is one chance. Take fewer risks in the knockout stage than you did in qualifying, and protect a lead rather than chasing a bigger margin — a narrow win moves you along the bracket just the same.

  • Learn one team. Stick with one nation for a full run so the movements become familiar, instead of switching every time you start. The controls are the same for every team, so what you are really learning is the timing of your own players.

  • Use the kickoff pause. Each match waits for your click before it starts. Use that moment to look at where both teams are lined up so you are not caught reacting when the ball comes into play.

  • Keep shots low and quick. In a crowded, top-down pitch, a fast shot through a gap reaches the goal before defenders can block it. Spending time lining up a perfect angle gives the other team a chance to close it.

Good to know — Brazil Cup 2014 is the oldest game in our arcade: GamePix published it on June 16, 2014, four days after the real World Cup opened in São Paulo.
