About the game

What is Fireboy and Watergirl 5 Elements?

Fireboy and Watergirl 5 Elements is a free puzzle platformer for the browser in which you guide two heroes — Fireboy, made of flame, and Watergirl, made of water — through temple levels full of buttons, levers, sliding gates and pools. Each level ends when both of them reach their own door, and red and blue diamonds wait to be collected on the way.

The game is the fifth in the series. GameDistribution’s description calls it “a completely new game with lots of new elements” and names its temples: the Fire Temple, the Forest Temple, the Ice Temple, the Light Temple, the Wind Temple and the Crystal Temple. “In FBWG5 you can play the adventure alone or with a friend.”

The credits are on the title screen, behind the small question mark: “All credit goes to Oslo Albet, Anna Tamarit, Jan Villanueva — Septimania 2018.” The title screen also carries the Agame logo and three menu items — Play, More Games and Walkthrough — with a settings gear in the corner.

Play opens on a tutorial. Two lines of text explain the controls at once: “Use A, W, D to move WaterGirl” and “Use the arrow keys to move FireBoy.” The level shows the series’ building blocks: red and blue diamonds, a lever, coloured pressure buttons, sliding barriers, a pushable block, red, blue and green pools, and two doors marked ♂ and ♀. A timer counts up at the top of the screen, and a Skip Tutorial button sits in the top-left corner.

After the tutorial comes the temple screen. Each temple is a cluster of hexagonal level markers with a Level Numbers switch in the corner; a carousel of element icons along the bottom moves between temples. On our first visit three were open — the Water Temple (six markers), the Forest Temple (six) and the Fire Temple (five) — with two more icons locked at either end of the carousel.

Fireboy and Watergirl 5 Elements remembers where you are. When we reloaded the page, the game went straight back to the temple screen with the tutorial marker still lit green, and the settings — a sound switch, a music switch and an OK button — are one tap away from the gear in the corner.

Each temple puts one hero in charge. The first Water Temple level spells it out: “In the Water Temple WaterGirl will take the lead and help FireBoy avoid the water.” Its floor is one long pool; in our test Watergirl waded straight through it and picked up a blue diamond on the way. GameDistribution has carried the game since January 14, 2019 and last updated its listing on March 6, 2026.

How to play

Playing Fireboy and Watergirl 5 Elements

  1. 1
    Start the tutorial

Press Play on the Fireboy and Watergirl 5 Elements title screen. The first level is a tutorial; Skip Tutorial in the top-left corner jumps straight to the temples.

  2. 2
    Move both heroes

Fireboy moves with the arrow keys and Watergirl with A, W and D — the tutorial shows both on screen.

  3. 3
Keep each hero in their element

The levels are built around which hero can go where. In the Water Temple, the game tells you, Watergirl takes the lead and has to help Fireboy avoid the water.

  4. 4
    Work the mechanisms

The levels are full of pressure buttons, levers, sliding barriers and pushable blocks. Work out which one moves what before you commit a hero to a route.

  5. 5
    Collect the diamonds

Pick up the red and blue diamonds along the way — Watergirl collected a blue one just by walking over it. The timer at the top of the screen keeps running while you do.

  6. 6
    Reach both doors

The two doors are marked ♂ and ♀. GameDistribution’s description sums up the aim of every level: “Reach the exit safely.”

Tips & strategy

How to win at Fireboy and Watergirl 5 Elements

  • Split the keyboard with a friend. Fireboy and Watergirl 5 Elements was made for two people on one keyboard: one on the arrow keys, the other on A, W and D. Talk through each room before either of you moves.

  • Playing alone? Move one hero at a time. Solo, you control both heroes at once with two hands. Park one in a safe spot, move the other, then switch — trying to move both together is how heroes end up in the wrong pool.

  • Let the temple’s hero lead. Each temple favours one hero — in the Water Temple, the game says, Watergirl takes the lead. Send that hero first to open the way for the other.

  • Read the colours. Fireboy and Watergirl 5 Elements is colour-coded from the heroes to the diamonds and the pools — red, blue and green. Before moving a hero onto anything coloured, check whose colour it is.

  • Retry instead of rescuing. The pause menu has a Retry button. If one hero is stuck or lost, restarting the level is quicker than trying to work around it.

  • Collect first, race later. The timer counts up all the time. On a first attempt, focus on reaching the doors with the diamonds; come back for a faster time once you know the route.

  • Check the walkthrough. The title screen has a Walkthrough button of its own — use it if a room has you completely stuck.

Good to know — Fireboy and Watergirl 5 Elements credits its makers on its own title screen: “All credit goes to Oslo Albet, Anna Tamarit, Jan Villanueva — Septimania 2018.”
