What is Basket Random?
Basket Random is a free one-button basketball game: two teams of two floppy, pixel-art players jump at the same ball, and each team controls both of its players with a single key. The official description sets the target — “The one who reaches 5 score first, wins the game” — against the computer or a friend on the same keyboard.
There is no passing, aiming or dribbling to learn. Press your key and both of your players leap at once; what happens next is physics. In our games they flailed into the other team, sent the ball bouncing toward the hoops and ended up in a heap on the court — and every so often the ball dropped in for a “BASKET!”.
The “Random” part is the court. After each basket the scene changes before the next tip-off: our first match started on a city street court on a sunny day and moved to a snowy court in front of log cabins, and the kits changed too.
Basket Random is the basketball sibling of Soccer Random, which is also in our arcade. The two share the pixel art, the one-key idea and the TwoPlayerGames.org branding, which appears on Basket Random’s loading screen, its title screen and under the court. GameDistribution lists the game under RHM Interactive and published it on April 21, 2020.
The title screen has three buttons — 1P, 2P and MORE — and the match screen keeps to the essentials: the score in the bottom corners, red on the left and blue on the right, and a pause button in the top-right corner. In 1P you are the left-hand team and play with W; in 2P a friend takes the right-hand team on the Up arrow.
Because it needs only one key, Basket Random is at its best when two people share a keyboard. GameDistribution lists it for iOS and Android, and its instructions say it can also be played with touch controls on phones and tablets.
It is also the first basketball game in the PlayFutbol arcade. Most of the arcade is football, and the closest relatives of Basket Random here are the one-key physics duels: Soccer Random above all, and Leg Soccer and Kick it 1v1 after it. What sets Basket Random apart is the hoop — the ball has to drop through a ring rather than cross a goal line, so a lucky bounce off the rim counts for as much as a clean jump.
Playing Basket Random
- 1Choose 1P or 2P
Press Play, then pick 1P to play the computer or 2P to play a friend on the same device.
- 2Find your key
In 1P you control the left-hand team with W. In 2P the left-hand team uses W and the right-hand team the Up arrow.
- 3Jump at the ball
Press your key and both of your players jump at the same time. Time it so they meet the ball near the hoop you are attacking.
- 4Score a basket
Get the ball through the hoop and a “BASKET!” banner appears, and your score in the bottom corner goes up.
- 5Read the new court
After each basket the court changes. Take a second to see the new scene and kits before the next tip-off.
- 6Reach five
According to the official description, the first team to reach five wins the match.

Modes & progression
You are the left-hand team on W; the computer plays the right. The score in the bottom-left corner is yours.
Two people on one keyboard: W for the left-hand team, the Up arrow for the right.
The official description: “The one who reaches 5 score first, wins the game.” With quick points, a match is short enough to replay straight away.
After every basket the court and kits can change — from a sunny city street court to a snowy one in front of log cabins in our first match.
How to win at Basket Random
Wait for the ball to come down. Your players only jump when you press, and both of them jump together. Pressing while the ball is still high sends them up too early; pressing as it drops toward them gives them the best chance of meeting it.
Watch the player nearer the ball. One key moves both players at once, so time the jump for whichever of your two is closer to the ball. The other one is along for the ride.
Stay ready in scrambles. Players in Basket Random tumble and land on each other, and the ball can squirt out of a scramble in any direction. Stay ready to jump again instead of waiting for a clean chance.
Check the new court. Each basket changes the scene. Let the first moments of a round show you where everything is before you commit to a jump.
Sit on opposite sides of the keyboard. In 2P the keys are W and the Up arrow — far apart on a keyboard — so two players can sit side by side without getting in each other’s way.
Pause to swap players. The pause button in the top-right corner stops the match, which is the easiest way to hand over a phone or swap who is playing.
Good to know — Basket Random and the arcade’s Soccer Random share the same TwoPlayerGames.org branding and the same idea — one key per team, two floppy players a side — so if you can play one, you can play the other.
