How Futbol Grid works
Futbol Grid is a daily 3×3 football grid puzzle. Each row and column names a club or country. You fill the nine cells with a player who fits both — someone who played for the row's club and is from the column's country, for example. You have nine attempts per grid. Each player may be used only once. A new grid drops every day, one per league. You're currently playing the Mixed Leagues variant.
Built on a curated database of 766 unique players across 69 nationalities and 100+ clubs, Futbol Grid tracks 2019 individual club spells. Puzzles are generated daily from this dataset, verified for solvability, and stored so you can replay any past day from the league archive.
The Mixed Leagues edition draws on 83 clubs with enough squad depth to be used as a criterion, 755 players who have turned out for one of them, and 53 nationalities with at least three players inside the league. 18% of the club × nationality pairs in that pool have an answer at all — which is why the board is searched for rather than drawn at random.

If two of these clubs appear together in a cell, you likely have at least ten valid answers — the cell is easier than it looks. AC Milan ↔ Chelsea heads the list thanks to a long lineage from Ruud Gullit, Marcel Desailly, and Andriy Shevchenko through to Fikayo Tomori and Christian Pulisic.
How the rarity score really works
Take the cell Barcelona × Brazil. Our database contains 11 Brazilian players who have played for Barcelona — from Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, and Ronaldo Nazário down to less-known names like Bebeto and Vítor Roque. Any one of them turns the cell green, but the rarer your choice, the lower your rarity percentage — the sharper your football knowledge reads to other players.

How to win Futbol Grid — and lower your rarity score
- 1. Start where you are surest. Lock the easy cells first to bank attempts and reveal which intersections are genuinely hard.
- 2. Ration your superstars. A player can be used only once, so don't spend a household name on an easy cell when an obscure one would do — save them for the tough crossings. In this edition the easy cells are usually the Real Madrid ones: 89 players in the database have turned out there.
- 3. Think journeyman for the impossible cells. The most-travelled players qualify for combinations nobody expects and double as rare, low-score answers. Here that means players like Zlatan Ibrahimović, who covers 7 of this edition's clubs on his own.
- 4. Read both axes before you commit. Every cell needs a player who satisfies the row and the column — confirm the country as well as the club.
- 5. Chase rarity once a cell is safe. A correct obscure pick scores far better than a correct obvious one, so trade fame for rarity wherever you can. With 755 players and 53 nationalities in the Mixed Leagues pool, there is almost always a second right answer nobody else will find.
A worked example
Take a cell that crosses Real Madrid with FRA — one of the richest intersections in the Mixed Leagues pool, with 89 players on that club alone. The names you reach for first are correct and everybody else reaches for them too, so they score high rarity. The player who had a shorter, less-remembered spell clears the same cell for a far lower score. The grid rewards who else you know, not just who you know.

How many clubs can appear on a Mixed Leagues grid?
83. A club needs at least three players in the database before it can be used as a criterion — below that, the cells it forms have one answer or none, and a one-answer cell marks you wrong for naming a different real footballer.
Which crests come up most in this edition?
Real Madrid, Chelsea FC, FC Barcelona, Manchester United, AC Milan — in that order. Squad depth in our data decides how often a club can be used, so the biggest squads appear most.
Is a Mixed Leagues grid easier than the mixed one?
Usually. 18% of the club × nationality pairs in this pool have an answer, against 18% in the mixed edition — a tighter pool means the cells that survive the search are denser, and you are working from one league's transfer history rather than all of them.
Which players unlock the most cells here?

Futbol Grid resets at midnight in your local timezone. The game uses a seeded daily generator, so every player worldwide sees the same grid for a given date.
Can you use the same player twice on football grid?
No. Each player fills exactly one cell per grid, even when their career qualifies them for several. That's the constraint that turns football grid from a trivia quiz into a strategy puzzle.
What does the rarity score mean in football grid?
Rarity is the percentage of players who chose the same name. Lower is better — a 3% rarity means only 3 in 100 players found that answer. Popular picks like Messi get high rarity; obscure journeymen get low ones.
Why is my football grid rarity score so high?
Because you picked a popular, obvious answer. To lower your score, chase journeymen — the 14 footballers in our database with six or more clubs are the safest bets for rare cells.
Do loans count on football grid?
Yes. Any official loan spell where a player made competitive appearances counts. Pre-season tours and trial weeks do not.
Do youth caps count on football grid?
No. Only senior national-team appearances count. Youth internationals and B-team fixtures are excluded.
Can you undo a guess on football grid?
You can clear a wrong answer — but it still costs one of your nine attempts. Correct answers lock in permanently.
Is there a new grid every day?
Yes. Each of the 6 league variants gets a fresh grid at midnight. Past days are playable from the league archive.
